Canon B200 Error Code – How to Fix
Category: Troubleshooting · Brand: Canon
The Canon B200 error is a serious printer fault indicating a problem with the print head, ink system, or in some cases the logic board. It appears on Canon PIXMA MG and MX series printers.
What Causes the Canon B200 Error?
- Overheating of the print head
- Damaged or clogged print head requiring replacement
- Depleted or leaking ink cartridges causing ink to reach the print head area
- Electrical fault in the printer's main board
Fix 1: Power Cycle (Most Common Fix)
Many users resolve B200 with a simple power reset:
- Turn off the printer using the power button
- Open the printer cover so the carriage moves to the center
- Unplug the power cord from the wall while the cover is open
- Leave unplugged for 5–10 minutes
- Plug back in, close the cover, and power on
Fix 2: Open Cover During Power On (Carriage Reset Trick)
- With the printer OFF and unplugged, open the front cover
- Plug in and power on while the cover is open
- Wait for the carriage to move fully to the left, then manually push it gently to the right
- Close the cover — this sometimes clears the error
Fix 3: Remove and Clean Ink Cartridges
- Open the cartridge access door
- Remove all ink cartridges
- Clean the print head nozzles with a cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water
- Reinstall cartridges and power on
Fix 4: Run Print Head Deep Cleaning
If the error clears temporarily but returns:
- Go to Setup > Maintenance > Deep Cleaning
- Run the cleaning cycle 2–3 times
- Print a nozzle check pattern
Fix 5: Replace the Print Head
If none of the above work, the print head itself is damaged and needs replacement:
- Order a Canon print head compatible with your model (search your model number + "print head" on Amazon)
- Remove the old print head: open the access door, release the head latch, lift out
- Install the new print head and run the alignment from the printer menu
When to Replace the Printer
If the print head costs more than a new printer and the machine is several years old, replacing the printer may be more cost-effective.
