Canon MX922 Won't Print – Fixes for All Common Causes
Category: Troubleshooting · Brand: Canon
The Canon PIXMA MX922 is a reliable office all-in-one, but when it refuses to print there are several specific causes to check. Follow these steps in order.
Step 1: Check for Error Codes
Look at the MX922's LCD display — any error number or support code tells you exactly what's wrong:
- 5100 / 5200 — carriage or print head error (see our Canon Error Code 5100 guide)
- 1686 / 1688 — ink cartridge issue
- 6000 — paper jam
If no code is shown and the display looks normal, continue below.
Step 2: Check Ink Levels
- On the printer's home screen, tap Setup > Ink information
- Replace any cartridge showing empty — the MX922 will stop printing if any single cartridge is depleted
Step 3: Clear the Print Queue
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers on your Windows PC
- Double-click Canon MX920 series (the MX922 appears under this name)
- Click Printer > Cancel All Documents
- Restart the Print Spooler: Windows + R > services.msc > Print Spooler > Restart
Step 4: Run a Nozzle Check
Clogged print nozzles cause missing or faded output that appears as "not printing":
- Press Setup > Maintenance > Nozzle Check
- If the pattern shows gaps, run Print Head Cleaning
- After cleaning, print a test page
Step 5: Verify the Network Connection
For wireless printing:
- Press Setup > Device settings > LAN settings > Confirm LAN settings > WLAN setting list
- Confirm the network name (SSID) matches your router
- If disconnected, use Setup > Wireless LAN setup to reconnect
Step 6: Reinstall the Driver
- Download the MX920 series driver from Canon's support site
- Uninstall the existing driver first: Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program
- Restart, then install the fresh driver
