Canon Printer Offline – How to Get It Back Online

A Canon printer showing as "Offline" usually means a communication issue between your computer and printer — not that the printer is broken. Here's how to fix it.
Quick Fixes First
- Restart your Canon printer (power off, wait 30 seconds, power on)
- Restart your computer
- Check that the printer's WiFi light is solid (not blinking)
- Ensure printer and computer are on the same network
Fix 1: Set Printer as Default and Online (Windows)
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Click your Canon printer
- Select Open print queue
- In the menu, click Printer and uncheck Use Printer Offline
- Also click Printer > Set as Default Printer
Fix 2: Remove and Reinstall the Printer
- Go to Printers & scanners, select your Canon printer, click Remove
- Click Add a printer or scanner
- Wait for Windows to detect your Canon printer and add it
Fix 3: Restart Print Spooler
Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
net stop spooler
net start spoolerFix 4: Fix on Mac
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners
- Right-click your Canon printer and select Reset printing system
- Re-add the printer by clicking the + button
Fix 5: Reinstall Canon Drivers
Uninstall existing Canon software from Control Panel, then download and install the latest driver from Canon's support site.
Fix 6: Assign a Static IP to the Printer
If the printer's IP address changes frequently (DHCP), assign a static IP through your router's admin panel and update the printer port on your computer.
