How to Connect Canon Printer to Laptop Without USB Cable
Category: Setup · Brand: Canon
You can connect a Canon printer to a laptop without a USB cable using WiFi network connection, Canon Wireless Direct, or Canon PRINT app.
Method 1: WiFi Network Connection
- Connect your Canon printer to your WiFi network (use the control panel setup wizard or WPS)
- On your laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Click Add device — your Canon printer should appear
- Select it to add
Method 2: Canon Wireless Direct (No Router Needed)
Canon Wireless Direct creates a private WiFi network from the printer:
- On the printer: Settings > LAN settings > Wireless Direct > Enable
- Note the SSID and password shown on the printer's screen
- On your laptop, connect to that WiFi network (e.g., "DIRECT-xxxx-Canon...")
- Open the Canon print dialog — the printer will appear automatically
Method 3: Canon PRINT App (Windows/Mac)
- Download Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from Canon's website
- Open the app and click Add Printer
- The app discovers Canon printers on the same network
- Select your printer to complete wireless pairing
Method 4: Bluetooth (Select Models)
Some Canon SELPHY models support Bluetooth. Enable Bluetooth on the printer and laptop, then pair in Bluetooth settings.
