How to Connect Canon Printer to Laptop Without USB Cable

Category: Setup · Brand: Canon

You can connect a Canon printer to a laptop without a USB cable using WiFi network connection, Canon Wireless Direct, or Canon PRINT app.

Method 1: WiFi Network Connection

  1. Connect your Canon printer to your WiFi network (use the control panel setup wizard or WPS)
  2. On your laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  3. Click Add device — your Canon printer should appear
  4. Select it to add

Method 2: Canon Wireless Direct (No Router Needed)

Canon Wireless Direct creates a private WiFi network from the printer:

  1. On the printer: Settings > LAN settings > Wireless Direct > Enable
  2. Note the SSID and password shown on the printer's screen
  3. On your laptop, connect to that WiFi network (e.g., "DIRECT-xxxx-Canon...")
  4. Open the Canon print dialog — the printer will appear automatically

Method 3: Canon PRINT App (Windows/Mac)

  1. Download Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from Canon's website
  2. Open the app and click Add Printer
  3. The app discovers Canon printers on the same network
  4. Select your printer to complete wireless pairing

Method 4: Bluetooth (Select Models)

Some Canon SELPHY models support Bluetooth. Enable Bluetooth on the printer and laptop, then pair in Bluetooth settings.
