How to Fix Canon Printer in Error State
Category: Troubleshooting · Brand: Canon
When a Canon printer shows "in error state," Windows can't communicate with it. The printer may be fine — it's usually a software or connection issue.
Fix 1: Check the Printer Display
Look at the Canon printer's LCD or indicator lights for any error codes or blinking patterns. Address any displayed errors first (paper jam, empty cartridge, etc.).
Fix 2: Restart Everything
- Power off the Canon printer
- Restart your computer
- Power the Canon printer back on
- Wait for it to fully initialize before trying to print
Fix 3: Uncheck "Use Printer Offline"
- Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Select your Canon printer
- Click Open print queue
- Click Printer in the menu bar
- Uncheck Use Printer Offline and Pause Printing
Fix 4: Clear Print Queue
In the print queue window, press Ctrl+A then Delete to clear all stalled jobs.
