How to Fix Printer Not Activated Error Code 30

Error code -30 "Printer not activated" typically appears in QuickBooks, Adobe, or other applications when the printer driver isn't properly registered with Windows.

What Causes Error Code -30?

  • Incorrect default printer settings
  • Corrupted printer driver
  • QuickBooks PDF Driver issues
  • Windows permissions problem with the printer registry

Fix 1: Set the Correct Default Printer

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  2. Click your printer
  3. Click Set as default
  4. Try printing again

Fix 2: Reinstall QuickBooks PDF Printer (QuickBooks users)

  1. Open QuickBooks
  2. Go to File > Printer Setup
  3. In the Form Name, select a form
  4. Click Printer Name and select QuickBooks PDF Converter
  5. If not listed, run QuickBooks repair to reinstall the PDF printer

Fix 3: Run Printer Troubleshooter

Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Printer > Run

Fix 4: Edit Registry (Advanced)

HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PrinterPorts

Ensure your printer is listed here. If not, removing and re-adding the printer will recreate this entry.

Fix 5: Reinstall the Printer Driver

Completely uninstall the printer driver and software, restart, and reinstall from the manufacturer's website.
