How to Print from an Android Phone – All Methods

Category: Setup

Printing from Android is built into the OS — you don't need to install anything extra if your printer supports Wi-Fi Direct or Mopria. Here's every method, from easiest to most universal.

Method 1: Default Print Service (Built into Android)

Android has a built-in print service that works with most modern Wi-Fi printers:

  1. Open any document, photo, or webpage
  2. Tap the three-dot menu > Print (or Share > Print on some apps)
  3. Tap the printer selector at the top — your printer should appear if it's on the same Wi-Fi network
  4. Tap the Print button

If your printer doesn't appear, it may need a manufacturer plugin.

Method 2: HP Print Service Plugin (HP Printers)

  1. Open the Google Play Store and search HP Print Service Plugin
  2. Install and open it — it runs in the background and makes HP printers available to Android's print service
  3. Now follow Method 1 — your HP printer should appear

Method 3: Mopria Print Service (Most Brands)

Mopria is an industry standard supported by Canon, Epson, Xerox, Ricoh, and many others:

  1. Search Mopria Print Service in the Play Store and install it
  2. The service runs automatically in the background
  3. Use Method 1 to print — Mopria-compatible printers appear in the list

Method 4: HP Smart App

  1. Download HP Smart from the Play Store
  2. Open the app and add your HP printer
  3. Print directly from the app or from any app via the Android print dialog

Method 5: Canon PRINT App

  1. Download Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY from the Play Store
  2. Add your Canon printer
  3. Print photos, documents, and web pages directly from the app

Method 6: Epson Smart Panel

  1. Download Epson Smart Panel from the Play Store
  2. Connect to your Epson printer
  3. Print and scan from your phone

Method 7: Wi-Fi Direct (No Router Needed)

Wi-Fi Direct connects your phone directly to the printer without going through your router:

  1. On the printer, enable Wi-Fi Direct (usually in Network Settings > Wi-Fi Direct)
  2. On your Android phone, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Direct
  3. Select your printer from the list
  4. Use the Android print service (Method 1) to print

Troubleshooting

Printer not found: Ensure your phone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Disable VPN if active.

Print dialog doesn't appear: Make sure the app supports Android's print API. Most major apps (Chrome, Gmail, Google Docs, Gallery) support it.
