HP LaserJet Pro M404n Driver Download & Setup Guide

The HP LaserJet Pro M404n is a wired network mono laser printer. It uses the HP PCL6 driver and is supported on all modern versions of Windows and macOS.

Go to HP's support site and search HP LaserJet Pro M404n — or use the direct support page at support.hp.com. Select your operating system and download the HP LaserJet Pro M404n Full Driver.

Installing on Windows 10 / 11

  1. Download the driver .exe from HP's support site
  2. Run the installer as administrator (right-click > Run as administrator)
  3. Select your connection type:

- USB — connect the cable when prompted

- Network — the installer will search for the printer on your local network

  1. Complete the wizard and print a test page to confirm

Installing on Mac

  1. Download the .dmg driver package from HP's support site
  2. Open the .dmg and run the installer
  3. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  4. Click + and select the M404n from the list (add by IP if not shown)

Adding the Printer by IP Address (Network Install)

  1. Print a Configuration Page from the printer: hold the Go button for 3 seconds
  2. Note the IP address on the printed page
  3. On Windows: Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer > The printer I want isn't listed > Add a printer using a TCP/IP address
  4. Enter the IP, select HP LaserJet from the driver list
