Category: Troubleshooting · Brand: Lexmark

When a Lexmark printer won't print, the cause is usually a communication problem, driver issue, or stuck print queue. Here's how to fix it systematically.

Quick Checks

  • Is the printer powered on and showing a ready status?
  • Is there paper in the tray?
  • Is toner or ink available?
  • Are there any error messages on the display?

Fix 1: Clear the Print Queue

  1. Settings > Printers & scanners
  2. Select Lexmark printer → Open print queue
  3. Press Ctrl+A then Delete

Fix 2: Restart Print Spooler

net stop spooler
del /Q /F /S "%systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*"
net start spooler

Fix 3: Set as Default Printer

  1. In Printers & scanners, click your Lexmark
  2. Click Set as default

Fix 4: Check Network Connection

For network printers:

  1. Print a network setup page from the printer menu
  2. Confirm the IP address
  3. Check that the printer port in Windows matches this IP (Printer Properties > Ports)

Fix 5: Reinstall Lexmark Driver

  1. Uninstall from Control Panel > Programs
  2. Visit Lexmark's support site
  3. Download the latest driver for your model
  4. Install and restart

Fix 6: Run Printer Troubleshooter

Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Printer

Fix 7: Check USB Cable

If using USB, try a different cable or port. USB 2.0 type B cables are standard for most Lexmark printers.

As a last resort, restore factory network settings: Menu > Settings > Network Settings > Factory Defaults
