How to Replace Toner in a Kyocera Printer
Category: Hardware · Brand: Kyocera
Kyocera printers use long-life toner cartridges designed for low cost-per-page printing. When the toner runs low, the printer displays a warning — replacement is straightforward on all ECOSYS and TASKalfa models.
When to Replace Toner
Your Kyocera printer will display one of these messages:
- Toner Low — you have prints remaining; order a replacement now
- Toner Empty or Replace Toner — printing will stop; replacement is required immediately
Finding the Right Toner Cartridge
Kyocera toner part numbers follow the format TK-XXXX (e.g., TK-1152, TK-5242K). Find your model's toner number:
- Check the printer's control panel — navigate to Menu > Device Status > Supply Status
- Or look in the printer manual or on the label inside the front cover
Step-by-Step Toner Replacement — ECOSYS Models
- Open the front cover of the printer (pull the handle or press the release button)
- Locate the toner cartridge — it slides out from the front
- Grasp the cartridge handle and pull it straight out — dispose of the old cartridge responsibly
- Remove the new toner cartridge from its bag and shake it gently 5–6 times horizontally to distribute the toner evenly
- Remove the orange protective cap from the cartridge nozzle (if present)
- Align the cartridge with the guides inside the printer and push it in firmly until it clicks
- Close the front cover
- The printer will initialize — it is ready when the ready indicator lights up
Step-by-Step Toner Replacement — TASKalfa MFP Models
- Open the main front door
- Pull out the toner cartridge by its handle — it slides out toward you
- Shake the new cartridge gently several times to distribute toner
- Remove protective tape or cover from the cartridge drum area
- Slide the new cartridge in along the guide rails until it locks
- Close the front door
After Replacement
If the printer still shows a toner warning after replacing:
- Open and close the front door again to reseat the cartridge
- Power cycle the printer (off, wait 10 seconds, back on)
